73RD UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY: MALAYSIA'S STATEMENT ON THE GLOBAL COMPACT FOR REFUGEES HIGH-LEVEL SIDE EVENT: A MODEL FOR GREATER SOLIDARITY AND COOPERATIONTwo years on from the General Assembly’s adoption of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, refugee numbers have continued to rise. At the same time, there have been notable developments in responding to large movements of refugees. These have contributed to the articulation of the global compact on refugees pointing the way for more predictable support to host countries and refugees, and sustainable responses overall.Malaysia welcomes the momentum in developing and concretizing the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR) which provides a comprehensive support system for both refugees and host communities. Malaysia will continue to strengthen its response to the large movement of refugees through regional cooperation, concerted efforts, mutual understanding, and a multifaceted approach with active participation of civil society and private sectors.
